Most backlink strategies begin with the wrong question:

Where can we get more links?

The better question is: where are your competitors already getting links that you are still missing?

That difference matters. The first question sends you into a marketplace with thousands of potential placements and very little direction. The second gives you a shortlist based on what is already working in your market.

That is why we built the Bazoom Backlink Gap Analyzer.

Enter your domain and the tool compares your backlink profile against your closest competitors in 60 seconds. You see how you stack up, where the gaps are, and which competitor placements are available directly through the Bazoom marketplace.

No card required. No spreadsheet marathon. Just a clearer place to start.

    What is a backlink gap?

A backlink gap is a referring domain that links to one or more of your competitors but does not link to you.

On its own, that does not automatically make the domain valuable. Competitors collect weak and irrelevant links too. Copying every backlink in their profile would be a terrible strategy.

The useful gaps are the ones that reveal a pattern.

If several competing websites have earned links from the same relevant publisher, that publisher is clearly willing to cover businesses, topics, or content in your space. Your competitors have already done part of the validation for you.

You still need to assess the opportunity properly, but you are no longer starting from zero.

That is the real value of backlink gap analysis. It replaces a blank page with evidence.

Why looking at your own backlink profile is not enough

A traditional backlink audit tells you what you already have.

That is useful for checking link quality, anchor distribution, lost links, referring domain growth, and potential risks. But it cannot show you the opportunities sitting outside your current profile.

Your competitors provide the missing context.

Imagine that your website has 300 referring domains. Is that strong?

There is no useful answer without knowing the market. If your closest competitors average 150, you may already be ahead. If they average 1,200, the same number tells a very different story.

This is why backlink totals viewed in isolation create more confusion than clarity. SEO metrics only become useful when you compare them with the websites competing for the same visibility.

The Bazoom Backlink Gap Analyzer puts that comparison in one view.

See how you stack up against your rivals

The first step is competitor comparison.

Enter your domain and we will compare your backlink profile against your closest competitors. You can review organic traffic, domain authority, overall site quality, and the size of the backlink gap side by side.

That gives you context before you start buying anything.

You may discover that your authority is already competitive, but your referring domain count is behind. You may find that one competitor has built a significant lead while the rest of the market is much closer. Or you may learn that the websites outranking you are not dramatically stronger at all.

Each result points toward a different strategy.

Without the comparison, teams often default to arbitrary targets such as “ten links per month” or “we need to reach DR 50.” Those targets sound specific, but they are not tied to the competitive reality of the search results.

A good backlink plan should be based on the gap you actually need to close.

Find the backlink gaps you can actually close

Most competitor backlink tools stop after identifying missing referring domains.

You get an export containing hundreds or thousands of websites. Then the real work begins: checking relevance, finding contact information, approaching publishers, negotiating prices, following up, and waiting to see whether a placement is even possible.

A backlink opportunity is not especially useful if you cannot act on it.

The Bazoom analyzer takes a more practical approach. It uncovers the backlink opportunities on Bazoom your competitors already have and you are still missing.

    That distinction is important.

These are not just theoretical gaps in a database. They are potential placements connected to the Bazoom marketplace. Once you identify a relevant opportunity, you can move directly from competitor research to execution.

The analysis does not become another document sitting in a shared folder. It becomes a working list.

Use competitor links as validation, not instructions

A backlink gap analysis should inform your strategy, not control it.

If a publisher links to three competitors, that is a useful signal. It tells you the site is active in your market and comfortable linking to businesses like yours.

It does not tell you whether the placement is right for your website.

The goal is not to recreate a competitor’s profile link for link. It is to understand how authority is being built in your space and make better decisions with that information.

A competitor can reveal an opportunity. Your own strategy still decides whether to take it.

    Prioritize the gaps that matter

A long list of missing links is not a strategy. Prioritization is where the actual SEO work happens.

We recommend dividing the opportunities into three groups.

    1. Shared competitor links

Start with publishers linking to multiple relevant competitors but not to you.

Repeated appearances are stronger signals than a single isolated link. They suggest that the publisher has an established connection to your industry or regularly covers the subjects you want to rank for.

These are usually the clearest gaps to investigate first.

    1. Links held by the market leader

Next, look at the competitor with the strongest combination of authority, organic visibility, and relevant backlinks.

Do not copy everything they have. Look for the placements that appear to support the topics and pages where they consistently outperform you.

That helps connect backlink analysis to an actual ranking job rather than treating every referring domain equally.

    1. Links that diversify your profile

Some opportunities matter because they add something you do not already have.

That could be a publisher in a target country, a highly relevant industry site, a different content format, or a strong editorial domain outside the narrow group you normally use.

Closing a backlink gap should make your profile stronger, not simply make the number larger.

Turn competitor research into a realistic plan

Once you have identified and filtered the relevant gaps, connect them to specific pages and objectives.

Do not send every new backlink to the homepage.

    Instead, ask:

    • Which commercial pages are sitting just outside the top results?
    • Which competitors outrank those pages?
    • Which referring domains link to their equivalent content?
    • Which placements could strengthen your page without creating an unnatural pattern?
    • What anchor text would fit your existing profile?

This turns competitor data into a campaign you can explain.

Rather than saying, “We want 20 backlinks this quarter,” you can say, “These competitors consistently outrank our category page, and these are the relevant referring domains they have that we do not.”

The second version gives your team a reason for every placement.

Claim the placements your competitors already have

Competitor backlink analysis is not new. SEO teams have used link intersect tools and manual exports for years.

The problem has always been the distance between seeing an opportunity and securing it.

You find the link. You qualify the domain. You search for a contact. You send an email. You follow up. You negotiate. Then you discover that the publisher is not accepting placements, the price has changed, or nobody replies.

The Bazoom Backlink Gap Analyzer shortens that distance.

It identifies the backlink opportunities your competitors already have within the Bazoom marketplace, allowing you to claim the same placements directly.

Research and execution finally sit in the same workflow.

What the analyzer will not do for you

The tool will not build your entire backlink strategy from one domain scan.

    No honest tool can.

It cannot decide which page matters most to your business, whether your content deserves to rank, or how aggressive your anchor strategy should be. It cannot guarantee that a backlink will produce a specific ranking movement.

What it can do is remove a large amount of unnecessary guesswork.

It shows you where your profile stands, which competitors are ahead, which placements you are missing, and which of those opportunities you can access through Bazoom.

That is enough to make the next decision considerably better.

Stop guessing where to build next

Your competitors have already spent time and money building their backlink profiles. You should not blindly copy the result, but you should learn from it.

The strongest competitor links show you where publishers are active, where authority is accumulating, and where your own profile may be falling behind.

The Bazoom Backlink Gap Analyzer brings those signals into one clear view:

    • Compare your backlink profile to your closest competitors
    • Review organic traffic, domain authority, and overall site quality side by side
    • Find the backlink gaps you can actually close
    • Uncover opportunities on Bazoom that your competitors already have
    • Claim the same placements directly through the marketplace
